The Vaughn brand voice project
Copy that talks like your neighbor
Client: Vaughn Corporation
Role: Copywriter
Agency: The Nudyne Group
The Nudyne Group is a family of companies that expertly provide standard and customized water heating solutions for almost any application.
-
I developed a unified voice for the Vaughn Corporation rebrand. We needed a voice that felt approachable to homeowners, contractors, and commercial buyers alike. The goal was to cut through the jargon and present Vaughn as a brand that’s knowledgeable but never stiff. Talking more like a your neighbor than a spec sheet. The result was clear, easy-to-digest messaging that works across web, email, and social channels.
-
Discovery
I started by talking with Vaughn stakeholders and reviewing how their products were being presented across channels. The existing messaging leaned too technical and didn’t connect well with homeowners or busy contractors.
Voice Definition
Created a voice guide with four core traits: approachable, knowledgeable, matter-of-fact, and casual. Built do’s/don’ts to keep all future content consistent.
Execution
Rewrote copy across the new Vaughn website as the core basis of our messaging.
Consistency Check
Applied voice guidelines to ensure every piece of copy and content sounded like Vaughn.
-
Do
Be approachable and down-to-earth. Talk like a neighbor who knows their stuff. Friendly, clear, and easy to understand.
Keep it practical. Use straightforward language that speaks to real-world needs, especially for plumbers and contractors.
Add a touch of levity. When it fits, lighten the tone with humor to make the brand feel human.
Show expertise without stiffness. Share product knowledge confidently, but avoid corporate jargon or overly formal phrasing.
Don’t
Drown in jargon. Keep technical details clear and simple. No need to overcomplicate.
Sound corporate. Skip the stiff, formal tone that feels like it came from a manual.
Overhype. Avoid empty promises and buzzwords.
Forget the audience. Write for both homeowners and contractors. Keep copy inclusive.
-
Simplified messaging made Vaughn feel approachable to homeowners without alienating contractors.
Reduced reliance on buzzwords—replaced with useful, product-specific information
Easier onboarding and agency collaboration: everyone knows how we write and why it sounds that way

The Longest Lasting Water Heater Money Can Buy
Vaughn residential water heaters are ready for whatever your household throws at them. Marathon laundry days, running your dishwasher, baths when you found your kid playing in the fish pond again. That's because of what they're made of.
Most water heaters you can find at a big-box store feature a glass-lined tank. The glass can crack over time, exposing the steel tank to corrosion. They use an anode rod, a typical part that wears out and needs replacement. Due to seamless coverage of the tank interior, our HydraStone and Featherweight Thermoplastic water heaters easily resist corrosion without an anode rod. They're built to last decades; no annual maintenance, no mystery leaks in year three. […]

The Difference: Featherweight Thermoplastic Lining
Contractors know the struggle of wrestling heavy units into tight spaces. For easy-breezy installs—Vaughn Featherweight Thermoplastic (FW Series) water heaters. Ultra-light construction under 150 lbs and top-mount connections make installs no sweat. Each Vaughn FW tank passes accelerated testing that simulates over 40 years of use. The thermoplastic lining provides full interior coverage at a minimum 0.125-inch thickness, 25 times thicker than glass. This means no need for an anode rod, a part that requires regular replacement.
Built from polybutene and polypropylene NSF-61 material, the FW tank resists corrosion and stays water-quality neutral. Our Featherweight units deliver lasting performance with less bulk. Available in our PF Indirect, MP Electric, VG-MP V-Grid enabled, CP Aqua Booster storage, and HP Heat Pump (hybrid) water heaters.

Set It And Forget It With Vaughn Water Heaters
You don't have time for junk tanks. Vaughn water heaters easily stand up to the demands of hotels, homes, condos, schools, and more. We deliver serious performance without the maintenance drama.
The Featherweight (FW) series lives up to its name. It's light enough to carry up a few flights of stairs, and designed for fast, hassle-free installs. The Hydrastone (HS) series is built differently. It's lined with proprietary cement to resist corrosion and extend tank life. Neither require anode rods. It's the kind of durability your clients notice when they don't have to replace their water heater in five years.
Both lines come equipped with energy-saving tech that cuts utility costs. Low-watt density heating elements reduce scaling and resist mineral buildup in hard water environments. [...]
